Earlier this month, Marriott ran a promotion for its long-stay brand Homes & Villas by Marriott where members could book a 4-night stay and earn 40,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy Points.

That promotion created a lot of buzz amongst Marriott loyalists for just how lucrative it potentially was. Unfortunately it was so poorly conceived & executed that Marriott were forced to amend the terms of the offer multiple times after it went LIVE.

Well guess what, the promo is back. And this time around, Marriott seemed to have learned from the ignominy it faced last time.

40,000 Points per Stay

Marriott Bonvoy members who book and stay for 4-nights or more at any Homes & Villas by Marriott property will earn 40,000 Bonus Marriott Points per stay.

Here are the well-defined terms of the offer :

  • Bookings must be made between May 15 – 19 and stay completed between May 15 – September 9.
  • A minimum spend of USD 1,500 per stay is required for the booking to be eligible for the 40K bonus.
  • No points will be awarded on cancelled bookings or on No-Show.
  • No Registration is required.

Full Terms and Conditions are available here.

If you are not familiar with how Homes & Villas by Marriott operate, as the business is run very differently to Marriott’s legacy business, check out my previous post over here.

My Thoughts

The key difference here compared to the previous time this promotion was offered is that Marriott are now imposing a minimum spend requirement. Only those booking with a minimum value of USD 1,500 (AUD 2,239) will be eligible for the 40K bonus.

This should weed out the mattress runners who swooped down on cheap properties in the last instalment of the promo, forcing Marriott to pull entire inventory in places like Kuala Lumpur.

Also, there is no more the crazy currency limitation which caused much confusion last time around. As long as the booking adds up to USD 1,500 regardless of the currency it’s paid in, it’s fine. Note that bookings are almost always charged in the local currency of the country where the property is located, but are eventually converted into U.S. dollar payment by Marriott.

If you are travelling before September 9 and considering booking a long-stay rental, it might be worth exploring options on Homes and Villas By Marriott.
