Cathay Pacific has just announced a transfer bonus offer on its Asia Miles program. Until 31st January 2020, Asia Miles members have the opportunity to score 10% bonus miles on transfers from eligible credit cards.

Registration is required prior to initiating the transfers, which you can do over here. Also, bonus miles may take 8-10 weeks to post from the end of the transfer bonus period (31st January), so this wouldn’t work for any immediate redemptions you may have in mind. You can check out other T&C’s associated with this offer through this link.

Relevant Rewards Program

If you are not familiar with it, I suggest you read my in-depth review of Cathay Pacific Asia Miles Program. In Australia, Asia Miles is a transfer partner with American Express Membership Rewards Program, ANZ Rewards, NAB Rewards & Citibank. The standard transfer ratio from these programs to Asia Miles is as follows:

  • You can transfer points from American Express Memberships Rewards Program to Asia Miles at 2:1 (2 Amex points = 1 Asia Mile).
  • You can transfer points from both ANZ Rewards & NAB Rewards to Asia Miles at 3:1 (3 Rewards points = 1 Asia Mile).
  • Transfers from Citi Rewards to Asia Miles vary depending on the type of card, with top of the range Citi Prestige Card offering the best transfer ratio of 2.5:1 (2.5 Citi Rewards = 1 Asia Mile).

With the current offer, you can earn an extra 10% bonus Asia Miles. There is no cap on the number of points that you can transfer.

In Conclusion

We rarely see transfer bonus offers from programs outside of Qantas & Velocity Frequent Flyer in Australia. In fact, I can’t remember a single time within the last 3 years at-least, when a Frequent Flyer Program outside of Qantas & Velocity has offered transfer bonus. In that sense, it’s good to see Asia Miles break ranks and woo card members. That said, a 10% transfer bonus is pretty weak & nothing to get excited about.

Cathay Pacific is a OneWorld partner, plus it has bilateral partnerships with numerous other airlines which opens up awards possibility on dozens of airlines from Qantas to Qatar Airways to Alaska Air.

If you have confirmed travel plans and there is award availability on those dates, this may be a good time to transfer points & earn some bonus Asia Miles. For everyone else, it probably doesn’t make sense to transfer points with such an underwhelming 😑 bonus.
